The digital tool for predicting the availability and demand of water resources in the Mediterranean.
The lack of knowledge about the availability of water resources and the scarce exchange of data between the different water users is one of the greatest complexities for the integral management of groundwater bodies.
Under this premise, GOTHAM was born. A European project whose objective was to develop and validate a digital tool that would make it possible to predict the availability and demand of water resources in the Mediterranean, as well as its impact on the sustainability of groundwater masses.
After three and a half years of work, Gotham concludes with success. Its tool, called GTool, has allowed efficient management of groundwater to preserve the quality and quantity of this resource. In this way, the GTool predicts the availability and demand of water resources, as well as its impact on the sustainability of water masses in western Almería (Spain), in Azraq Basin-Zarqa (Jordan) and Iaat Baalbeck-Hermel (Lebanon).
Cetaqua and Hidralia, patron of the technology centre together with the CSIC and the University of Malaga, consolidate through projects such as GOTHAM their commitment to the sustainable management of water resources, with a special focus on groundwater and the managed recharge of aquifers, proposing new R+D+i solutions to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the water cycle, taking local needs into account.
