Medical imaging, autonomous vehicle, robotics, entertainment… Computer Vision is one of the areas of Artificial Intelligence that generates a more tangible impact on our lives. Within this framework, Cetaqua, the Water Technology Center of Aigües de Barcelona, the UPC and the CSIC, and Computer Vision Center (CVC) have signed a collaboration for the joint research and development of projects focused on the application of Computer Vision to water management and environment.
Thanks to this agreement, the transition from a collaboration based on individual projects to the joint creation of a research program in Computer Vision, will allow us to identify needs, develop solutions, and transfer knowledge for its application in the management of the water cycle will be facilitated.
Joint Lab goal is, therefore, to progress towards applied research and transfer in one of the most active fields of Artificial Intelligence. The application of Computer Vision in areas such as the intelligent monitoring of processes in water plants or the monitoring of the state of natural spaces poses a scenario of great challenges and opportunities that will be addressed within the framework of this collaboration. The combination of capabilities, access to expert knowledge and availability of large volumes of data provides a solid base for the development and production of applied Artificial Intelligence solutions that respond to the great challenges of sustainable water management.

Artificial Intelligence and, in particular, Computer Vision has shown enormous potential to offer practical, efficient solutions with a great power to transform operations. We want to contribute to making the water cycle a key vector in the digital and ecological transformation of our environment,” said Carlos Montero, CEO of Cetaqua.
Josep Lladós, director of the Computer Vision Center (CVC), said: “The CVC is committed to a model of co-research between academia and the private sector. As a center that generates knowledge and trains talent, joint laboratory instruments allow us to accompany talent in the generation of disruptive innovation and, ultimately, to transform knowledge into value and welfare for society. On the other hand, in an environment in which Europe is committed to ecological and digital transformation, this is an opportunity to apply Artificial Intelligence technologies to the environmental sector, solving problems of social impact”.
The more than 25 years of experience of the CVC in the field of Computer Vision and the experience of Cetaqua in the development of technologies and solutions to reach a more sustainable, efficient and safe water cycle, will allow to establish synergies, expand the innovation ecosystem and favor technologic transfer to offer an added value to the water sector, the environment and society in general.
