BioCenPlas

Centralised biorefinery for the valorisation of effluents from the fish processing sector in the form of bioplastics

BioCenPlas

The BioCenPlas project aims to use organic waste generated by the fish processing industry to obtain bioplastics, specifically polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Replacing conventional plastics with bioplastics will significantly reduce the current environmental impact of these materials and also produce a social benefit.

The biotechnological system proposed in the project aims to contribute to improving the sustainability of the fisheries sector by reducing waste production and energy consumption, as intended in projects financed by resilience funds. BioCenPlas is financed by European Union funds – Next Generation EU through Royal Decree 685/2021.
