MARCLAIMED

Integrated decision-support tool for safe implementation of managed aquifer recharge with reclaimed water

Project website

MARCLAIMED

Europe is facing the worst drought of the century. In this context, MARCLAIMED takes action to address the challenges of integrating Managed Aquifer Recharge with alternative water resources into hydrological and drought plans as a structural measure to mitigate water scarcity in Europe.

The project aims to mitigate water challenges by demonstrating innovative digital tools in three demonstration locations in Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. These tools will improve operational efficiency, economic sustainability and social perception.

The main output of MARCLAIMED, the Integrated Decision Support Tool (IDST), will provide strategies to address existing and emerging threats, supporting decision making and the adoption of climate change adaptation policies.

In addition, the project will focus on the perception and social acceptance of alternative water resources reuse, involving the relevant EU legislative bodies through a Community of Practice, and will define guidelines and recommendations within the European regulatory framework.
